Recently started working out again? This is for you.
If you’ve recently decided to start working out again, first of all, good for you! Starting is one thing. Staying consistent when life gets busy is usually where things get a little harder.
We’re heading into the holiday season, schedules are going to get fuller, stress may start creeping up, and some days you’re simply not going to feel like working out.
So, before life starts lifing, here are three things you can do now to help yourself stay consistent:
1. Plan your workouts.
Don’t leave working out up to whether you have time that day. Look at your week and decide ahead of time when you’re going to exercise.
Even choosing your workout days at the beginning of the week gives you a plan to follow instead of having to make that decision every day.
2. Manage your stress.
It’s a lot harder to show up for a workout when you’re already mentally and physically exhausted.
Pay attention to your sleep, give yourself time to slow down, don’t overload your schedule, and make sure you’re taking care of yourself outside of the gym too.
Your workouts are only one piece of your overall wellness.
3. Cut back when you need to, but don’t completely stop.
If you normally go to the gym for an hour but this week is crazy, maybe you do a 20-minute workout at home instead.
If you normally work out four days, maybe a busy week becomes two.
Something is better than nothing.
You don’t have to maintain your perfect routine through every season of life. Sometimes consistency simply means adjusting instead of quitting.
